All our bokken are custom made to the specifications for Nami Ryu Aiki Heiho, and made of the highest quality natural wood. They have a 13.5" tsuka, and a 31" nagasa. Because they are made from Hickory, this bokken is extremely versatile for other Japanese sword related martial arts. Hickory has a Janka hardness rating of 1820, and has been the preferred wood used for hammers and axe handles because of its combined strength and flexibility.
While the design is mainly intended for the necessary speed and strength required for Samurai martial practice, the shape incorporates several koryu (old school) stylistic features. These bokken feature a rounded koshirae, a defined mune and shinogi, a rounded ha, and a clear demarcation between the tsuka and the habaki where the tsuba sits cleanly. These bokken are suitable for both kumi-tachi (partner practice) as well as suburi (solo) practice.
At 45" overall length and 1" thickness, it could be used in most dojo and most practice situations for martial artists seeking a mid-weight design.
Our Otanto are also custom made to the specifications for Nami Ryu Aiki Heiho, and made of the highest quality Hickory. The design is intended to be the average length of an adult forearm. In Samurai martial practice, we want our tools to work with our body. This Otanto enables the practitioner to move correctly when working with an opponents sword.

The removable guard (tsuba), is fitted onto our bokken. It performs the function of protecting the hands from an opponent's weapon. The tsuba also allows for certain specialized techniques where the edge of tsuba itself becomes the instrument for atemi (striking). This tsuba is a Toran gata shape. Our tsuba's are cut from a solid piece of high density polypropylene and are both non-porous and impact resistant.
