Prototypes
I made several prototypes from Hickory to find the correct shape and size.
正しい形状とサイズを見つけるために、ヒッコリーでいくつかのプロトタイプを作成しました。
Blade length and sori
The bokken has a Torii Sori, from the end of the tsuka to the kissaki. The sori has a depth of 2.5cm. The total length is 41.5 inches, or 1.05 meters
木刀には、柄の先端から切先まで鳥居の反りがあり、その深さは2.5cmです。全長は41.5インチ、つまり1.05メートルです。
Handle profile shape
I went through seven iterations to find the final shape (#3). These are the three main stages in the progression.
1: Ellipse ridge was too sharp in my palm.
2: Rounded the upper handle, and discovered the bottom was too sharp. I did not like that the handle had flat sides.
3: Rounded ellipsoid was most comfortable
最終的な形（#3）を見つけるまで、7回の反復作業が必要でした。これらが進化の3つの主要な段階です。
1: 楕円形の稜線は手のひらに鋭すぎました。
2: 上部のハンドルを丸くしてみたら、底部が鋭すぎることに気づきました。ハンドルの側面が平らなのが気に入りませんでした。
3: 丸みを帯びた楕円形が一番持ちやすかったです。
Blade shape
The handle is a consistent shape (ellipsoid), but the blade has a distal taper from the habaki to the kissaki. The taper is between the mune and the ha. Here are 3 versions of the progression. The first version (1), had a balance point that was too far away from the tsuba.
The second prototype (2) has arrows that indicate the transition from the handle shape to the blade shape. Its very subtle. If you hold the bokken up to a light, you can see the transition. This transition is also present on the final bokken.
柄は楕円形で統一されていますが、刃はハバキからキサキにかけて先端が細くなっています。この細くなっている部分は、ムネとハの間です。ここでは3つのバージョンを紹介しています。最初のバージョン（1）は、バランスポイントが鍔から離れすぎていました。
2番目の試作品（2）には、柄の形状から刃の形状への移行を示す矢印があります。これは非常に微妙な変化です。木刀を光にかざすと、その変化が確認できます。この変化は最終的な木刀にも見られます。
Kissaki
The first kissaki shape (1) was similar to a katana, and after including a taper between the mune and the ha - the shape was unsafe (2). The final kissaki shape (3) needed to be rounded to increase safety and durability.
最初の切先形状（1）は刀に似ており、胸と刃の間にテーパーを付けると安全性が損なわれました（2）。最終的な切先形状（3）は、安全性と耐久性を高めるために丸みを帯びる必要がありました。

The final kissaki shape needed to be rounded to increase safety and durability.
安全性と耐久性を高めるために、最終的なキサキの形状を丸くする必要がありました。
Brazilian Teak wood
The Brazilian Teak wood is very similar to Ipe. It is almost identical in hardness and flexibility. You can see on the chart that it is about 3 times the hardness of Hickory.
ブラジルチーク材はイペ材と非常によく似ています。硬度と柔軟性はほぼ同じです。表を見ると、ヒッコリー材の約3倍の硬度であることが分かります。
